Different Types of Brake Pads

Different Types of Brake Pads in Michigan | Westside Service
Different types of brakes pad are available, and knowing the right one for you is the most crucial thing. While searching for the best brake pads, there are multiple factors to consider. This blog provides a summary of the best types of brakes and how they fit in your specific car.

Pad Type

The three most commonly used pad types are organic(non-metallic), semi-metallic, and
ceramic.

Non-metallic

This is the softest form of brake pad and comprises of resins, rubbers, and glasses. This model is soft on brakes but wears out quickly. This makes them ineffective for anything rather than daily road driving, which makes them non-preferable on most occasions. Similarly, they are easily covered with dust particles which can become a bit of pain. The best alternative for organic pads is Kevlar pads, which are expensive and perform better than organic pads.

Semi-metallic

These are the most common braking pads used in modern cars. The semi-metallic pads
combine metals and synthetics to form a predominantly metallic hybrid compound. However, at low temperatures, the metal has a low friction coefficient. Adding a tad more pedal power solves this problem, which helps create the same braking force in lower temperatures.

Ceramic

In cases where the brakes fade away due to heating, ceramic pads are worth a try. The
ceramic type is mainly used in high-powered vehicles, which need constant breaking. This type is good at absorbing the heat generated from continuous braking. Although the ceramics are suitable for high-speed vehicles, they could be more efficient for daily driving since it gets difficult to warm up while operating in normal conditions.

Every type of brake has its downsides and is applicable depending on the type and use of the vehicle. If you need brake pad replacement, we invite you to bring your vehicle to Westside Service today!
